Class Focus: 9 – 12
This is a class for students who want to explore the field of welding. Students will learn the types of welds and the various methods of welding. Welding symbol interpretation and print reading will also be covered. Students will have ample shop time to practice welding using the various types of welding. They will also have some time to work on welding projects if their skills progress.
Objectives
The student will:
1) List 10 Businesses in the area that would hire a worker with welding skills.
2) Be able to explain the major methods of welding.
3) Identify the 5 types of welding joints.
4) Be able to list the parts of a weld and explain the characteristics of a good weld.
5) Be able to identify and interrupt the parts of a welding symbol.
6) Be able to read a welding drawing and explain what is to be done.
7) Explain welding rod/wire selection.
8) Be able to operate a oxyfuel torch for welding and cutting.
9) Be able to braze.
10) Be able to cut metals with a plasma torch.
11) Be able to set up and weld with SMAW and GMAW.
12) Understand the importance of shop safety in the welding shop.
